BIO
From his early beginnings as a painter and illustrator, to painting amazing environments in Hollywood films, Steve has always looked to redefine what’s possible in art.
For over 30 years it has been his goal to bring his paintings to life, organically and without compromise. He would have to wait 25 years for technology to mature to the point where he could achieve that goal.
Through this waiting period he was not idle. He has had an award winning career creating matte paintings for films such as: Life of Pi (Academy Award for Best Visual Effects 2013), Polar Express, Star Wars EP3, Superman, The Chronicles of Narnia, Surfs Up, Beowulf, 300 and many others.
In 2010 he created his first Moving Painting, achieving his life-long goal. With each new work, he continually pushes the boundaries of this seemingly unlimited new medium.
Steve is now permanently represented by ten galleries in the US and has hundreds of collectors all over the globe.
ARTIST STATEMENT
We are in constant flux, as is the world around us, always changing from moment to moment. Movement and time largely define our reality.
As artists we’ve always had the ability to work in 2 or 3 dimensions, but the 4th dimension has been a different story. For 30 years my passion has been to create art that reflects this aspect of our perception. To bring paintings to life.
In viewing the moving image, the observer cannot predict, only anticipate what may be coming next. This inherently creates mystery. That wonderful moment of discovery ceases to be a moment and can become a continuous experience.
